As thousands begin to flock to Wayville Showgrounds for the Royal Adelaide Show this Saturday, RAA is encouraging show goers to watch out on our roads for the much higher levels of pedestrian activity.
South Aussies are being reminded to plan their journeys in advance before indulging in show bags, rides and displays at the Royal Adelaide Show between Saturday, 2 September and Sunday, 10 September this year.
RAA Senior Manager of Safety and Infrastructure Charles Mountain said the Show can pose additional challenges and traffic congestion for motorists.
“The Show is a popular event for young families, so drivers need to be particularly mindful of our vulnerable road users like children who may be more focussed on what awaits them inside the Showground rather than safely getting there,” Mr Mountain said.
“Motorists are reminded that there will be 25km/h speed restrictions in place on Greenhill Road, Goodwood Road and Leader Street, so be aware for these signs.
“It’s important to remain attentive and patient when travelling through the reduced speed limit areas as children are less familiar with the road rules.
“Pedestrians should keep to the footpaths and designated walkways and cross at the signalised intersections and pedestrian crossing points to cross the major roads.
“Cyclists can secure their bikes at designated bike racks available in Rose Terrace and Leader Street.”
Parking can be a frustration for show goers, but there are plenty of options available.
“Parking is available in Park 22 which is accessible from Greenhill Road between ANZAC Highway and Goodwood Road, and Park 21W can be accessed from South Terrace between Goodwood Road and Sir Lewis Cohen Avenue,” Mr Mountain said.
“There is also parking at the Netball SA stadium on Railway Terrace Mile End each day (except Saturdays) with a free coach service to and from the showgrounds.
“Parking in streets in the vicinity of the showgrounds is restricted during the Show to assist pedestrian movement and maintain local access, so always check any parking signs before walking away from your vehicle.
“Alternatively, public transport is a great option with around 30 bus, train and tram stops near the Show and show goers can plan their public transport journey using the RAA Go app.”
